About Me!

🌉 From the Bay to the Brain 🧠

I’m Isabel Luna, a Bay Area–raised aspiring neuroscientist.

I started my journey at City College of San Francisco, where I juggled multiple jobs and courses. I had the opportunity to work in Biotech during this period and eventually went on to academia once I transferred to San Francisco State University.

I’ve trained in labs from UCSF to the University of Michigan, exploring how reward circuits shape motivation, choice, and behavior. I’ve been fortunate to find internships where my love for computer science and biology comes together through working with data.

My Skills at a glance

Despite the range of skills I’ve developed, I’m always striving to learn more, whether it’s refining my experimental design, improving my code, or finding new ways to communicate science creatively. I believe that growth comes from curiosity and staying open to learning from every experience.

Outside of Science

When I’m not running experiments, I’m usually literally running. I love going to the gym, hitting long runs around the Bay, and finding new trails to hike whenever I can sneak in the time. I’m always trying something new, pottery, glass art, biking, whatever catches my curiosity that week. Community is a huge part of my life, too. Whether I’m volunteering, mentoring students, or working directly with local organizations, I care deeply about staying connected to the people and places that shaped me. Science might be my career, but movement, creativity, and community keep me grounded.
